What Is Headless Commerce and Should You Use It?
Headless commerce separates the frontend from the backend. More flexibility, better performance, but more complexity. Here's what you need to know.

THE X STUDIO
Headless commerce is the biggest trend in e-commerce architecture. Instead of a monolithic platform (like Shopify's Liquid templates), the frontend and backend are decoupled — connected via APIs.
The Benefits
Performance: Your frontend can be a blazing-fast Next.js site while the backend handles inventory. Design freedom: No template limitations. Build any UI you can imagine. Omnichannel: Same backend powers your website, mobile app, and physical POS.
The Tradeoffs
More development time. You need a frontend developer who can build the store from scratch. Hosting costs are slightly higher. Maintenance is more involved.
Is It Right for You?
Headless makes sense for brands with custom needs — unique checkout flows, subscription models, or multi-channel sales. For a simple 20-product store, Shopify or WooCommerce is probably enough. We build both at THE X STUDIO — headless for brands that need it, traditional for stores that don't.
